Eucryphia lucida 'Gilt Edge'

A medium sized evergreen shrub that will provide great structure to any border. It can also be used as a specimen plant in a smaller space to really make an impression. In our climate it could reach more than three metres and has a smart columnar habit. Its dark green leaves are dense and oblong in nature with a fine yellow edging; they are quite leathery to the touch and will rattle in the wind giving them an extra audio quality. In early to mid-summer it really produces its best display as it becomes covered in bright white saucer shaped flowers that can be up to five centimetres in diameter generously spread over the crown of the plant making for a superb display. Give this shrub a south or west facing aspect when planting and keep away from strong cold winds. It is fine in most soils expect alkaline and prefers a slightly partially shaded spot.
