This gorgeous plant produces large, cupped lavender pink flowers all over the bare crown of the tree in spring. These blooms also have white petals on the inside of the flower. Mid green narrow ovate leaves are born toward the end of the flowering period turning yellow in the autumn.

This regal spring flowering tree has an upright habit. It is deciduous (meaning it will lose its leaves in the colder months) and reaches up to eight metres in height with a low branching habit.

This Magnolia enjoys a sandy loam soil but will tolerate most soils, but make sure that it is free draining to avoid waterlogging. They are happiest in a south or west facing aspect and can grow in either a sunny or partially shaded position.

Add organic matter to planting hole, watering when conditions are dry and mulch each spring.

Like all early flowering Magnolias Coates should be treated as an important focal point plant in any garden landscape.
