Centaurea Nigra - Common Knapweed

Product ref: P28582

Availability: In stock

This robust perennial is a must-have for cottage and meadow-style plantings. Centaurea nigra, also known as Common Knapweed, boasts rich purple, thistle-like flowers that sit on slender mid-green stems. Flowering from early to late summer, it brings a relaxed, naturalistic feel to borders and wildflower plantings while providing excellent nectar for bees and butterflies.

Thriving in full sun and well-drained to moist soil, this hardy perennial is ideal for wildlife gardens, informal borders and prairie-style schemes. It combines particularly well with Knautia macedonia, Rudbeckia fulgida 'Goldsturm' and Camassia leichtlinii 'Caerulea', where its deep purple blooms add contrast and height among softer, daisy-like forms. Low-maintenance and resilient, it can be cut back after flowering to encourage a tidy appearance and occasional repeat blooms later in the season.

Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
