Armeria Dreameria ‘Vivid Dreams’ takes the familiar charm of thrift and turns up the flower power. Large, rounded heads packed with rich purple blooms rise proudly on slender stems, creating eye-catching pops of colour above a neat mound of evergreen, grass-like foliage.
Unlike traditional Armeria varieties that tend to concentrate their display into spring, the Dreameria series has been bred for a much longer flowering performance. ‘Vivid Dreams’ can keep producing flowers from spring well into autumn, particularly when spent blooms are removed.
Growing to around 25-30cm tall, it is a cracking little plant for sunny patio pots, gravel gardens, rockeries and the front of borders. The sturdy flower stems also make useful cut flowers, while visiting pollinators will appreciate the blooms outdoors.

Plant ‘Vivid Dreams’ in full sun and well-drained soil. Good drainage is particularly important, so avoid sites that remain wet or waterlogged during winter. Water regularly while plants establish, then more sparingly once settled, giving them a thorough drink during prolonged dry spells. Container plants will naturally need more frequent watering. Remove faded flower stems to encourage further blooms and give plants a suitable feed in late winter or during the growing season to support their extended display. Its compact evergreen growth requires little other maintenance.
‘Vivid Dreams’ comes from the Dreameria series, the result of a breeding programme lasting around 20 years. One of the big aims was to move Armeria beyond its traditional cool-season flowering window, producing plants with larger flowers, sturdy stems and a considerably longer season of colour. ‘Vivid Dreams’ certainly shows off the results, combining those oversized purple flower globes with the naturally neat character that makes thrift such a useful garden plant.
