Astrantia major - Masterwort

Astrantia major is a graceful, cottage-garden perennial prized for its intricate flowers and ability to bring delicate colour to partially shaded planting schemes. From early summer into autumn, the flower heads are beautifully coloured in papery white to soft pink. The flowers are loved by bees and other pollinators and are also excellent for cutting, a stunning and versatile choice for naturalistic borders.

Perfect for cottage gardens, woodland borders and partially shaded beds, Astrantia major thrives in partial shade or gentle sun and moist, but well-drained soil. Water regularly during prolonged dry spells, as Astrantia dislikes drying out. Deadhead faded flowers to encourage blooms or leave some for attractive seed heads. Cut back old growth after flowering. Plant alongside Hostas and hardy Geraniums
