Product ref: VEG28886

Availability: Out of stock

Aubergines are highly productive vegetable plants that reward gardeners with generous crops of versatile fruits perfect for a wide range of dishes. Aubergine ' Italian Long Purple' is a traditional variety producing elegant, deep-purple fruits around 20cm long from mid-summer through to autumn. The slender fruits have tender flesh and excellent flavour, making them ideal for slicing, roasting or adding to soups. Excellent for greenhouses, vegetable patches and raised beds, it is particularly well suited to cottage and Mediterranean-style gardens.

Thriving in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil and a warm, sunny, sheltered position, 'Italian Long Purple' benefits from consistent temperatures and protection from strong winds. Plant in rich soil after frosts have passed and water regularly during dry periods. Feed fortnightly with a tomato fertiliser once flowering begins and remove any damaged leaves as required. Regular picking encourages further fruit production. Harvest when fruits are fully coloured, glossy and firm, before the seeds become mature and the skin loses its shine.

Supplied in approx. 9cm pots.
