Aubergine Plant 'Italian Violette Di Firenze'

Product ref: VEG28887

Availability: Out of stock

Aubergines are productive and attractive vegetable plants, prized for their delicious fruits, ornamental appeal and reliable harvests throughout the warmer months. Aubergine 'Violette di Firenze' is a traditional Italian heirloom variety producing beautiful, rounded to slightly oval fruits with glossy purple skin and pale lilac shading around the calyx. Ready for harvest from mid-summer through to early autumn, its tender flesh and rich flavour make it ideal for roasting, grilling or baking. Perfect for greenhouses, raised beds and vegetable patches, this classic variety is particularly at home in cottage and Mediterranean-style gardens.

Thriving in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil and a very sunny, sheltered position, 'Violette di Firenze' performs best when grown in consistently warm conditions. Plant into rich soil after all risk of frost has passed, allowing plenty of space for healthy growth and airflow. Keep plants well-watered during dry spells, especially while flowers and fruits are developing, and apply a high-potash fertiliser regularly throughout the growing season. Remove any damaged or yellowing foliage and pick fruits promptly to encourage continued cropping. Harvest when the fruits are fully coloured, glossy and firm, before the skin begins to dull and seeds become more developed.

Supplied in approx. 9cm pots.
