English Marigold - Calendula officinalis 'Porcupine Orange' - In Bud & Bloom
Calendula officinalis 'Porcupine Orange' is a striking annual producing unusual quilled and spiky double flowers in rich, vibrant orange from late spring until the first frosts. The distinctive cactus-like blooms create a bold architectural effect in borders, cottage gardens and patio containers, while also making excellent cut flowers. Highly attractive to pollinators, the edible petals can be used to brighten salads, desserts and herbal teas.
This easy-care variety flowers continuously with very little maintenance. Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil for the best display. Regular deadheading will encourage a longer flowering season and keep plants looking tidy, although allowing some blooms to set seed may result in natural self-seeding the following year. Water during prolonged dry spells, particularly when grown in containers, and avoid overly wet or poorly drained soils. A light feed during the growing season can help promote even more blooms. Pair with Nigella and Eschscholzia for a vibrant cottage garden combination full of colour and pollinator appeal.
Supplied in approx 1 litre containers.
