Clematis 'Shin-shigyoku'

Clematis ‘Shin-shigyoku’ is a truly dramatic Japanese variety, prized for its sumptuous double blooms in rich velvety purple with striking pale-edged petals and an intricate central rosette. Flowering from late spring into early summer, with occasional repeat blooms later in the season, this luxurious climber creates a stunning focal point on trellises, obelisks, pergolas, and walls. The deeply coloured flowers add elegance and depth to the garden, making this variety particularly effective in both traditional and contemporary planting schemes.

Growing to approximately 2–3 metres in height and 1–1.5 metres in spread, ‘Shin-shigyoku’ is a moderately vigorous climber that rewards gardeners with an exceptional floral display. It benefits from light pruning in late winter or early spring, removing dead or weak growth and cutting back to strong buds. Regular watering during dry periods and a spring application of balanced fertiliser will encourage healthy growth and prolific flowering.
