Cryptomeria japonica 'Vilmoriniana' - Japanese Cedar

Cryptomeria japonica ‘Vilmoriniana’ is a distinctive dwarf evergreen conifer, prized for its dense habit and needle-like foliage. Its rich green growth creates a soft yet structured presence that works beautifully in rock gardens, woodland, and cottage-style borders. It brings year-round interest and a calm, evergreen backbone to both contemporary and traditional garden designs.

This slow-growing cryptomeria thrives in a sunny to lightly shaded position with moist but well-drained soil, and it is particularly well suited to sheltered spots. It combines elegantly with contrasting plants such as Juniperus squamata ‘Blue Star’ for cool-toned foliage or low grasses like Festuca glauca to add fine texture. To maintain its neat shape, little pruning is required; simply remove any dead or damaged growth in spring and ensure the soil does not dry out completely, especially when grown in containers.
