Dahlia Chat Noir - Black Cat - Premium variety
Availability: Out of stock
Dahlia 'Black Cat' is certainly an extremely eye-catching variety, and one of the deepest red-black Cactus style Dahlias available. The plants are very strong growing, and the blooms are large too. The superb, double flowers have long, narrow and pointed petals that re-curve for more than half of their length providing an intriguing appearance. Perfect for a mixed or herbaceous border, butterflies can't resist this beauty either. These will look fantastic as part of a red, purple and black planting scheme. We love to team this variety with Verbena bonariensis, that can weave its stems through the plants if the are planted in close proximity. Growing to a maximum height of approx 100cms (3-4ft), the plants are nice and sturdy. Black Cat is a truly stunning Dahlia that is rare and one of the darkest available, making for exquisite cut flowers, and dramatic garden displays - do not delay in getting your very own.

To plant them, dig a hole at least 20-30cm square and around 20-30cm deep for each one. Cover the base of the hole with 10cms of compost, or manure and give it a good dousing with a full watering can and then plant the dahlia at a depth of 15cms. You may need a stout stake, not just a bamboo cane, to support each plant and it is a good idea to knock this in first and then place the plant by its side. Plant in a sunny spot and keep moist yet well-drained. It will need to be lifted in winter - once the foliage dies back simply dig it up and store in a cool, frost free location.
