Dahlia ‘Kingsblood’ is a richly coloured small-flowered decorative variety, known for its deep crimson-red, even 'blood' red blooms with perfectly rounded, tightly layered petals. The velvety texture and symmetrical form give it a classic, refined appeal, making it ideal for structured borders, formal planting schemes, or elegant floral arrangements. Its compact size and long, straight stems also make it a reliable choice for cutting, just snip blooms when fully open for a bold indoor display.
Flowering steadily from midsummer to the first frost, ‘Kingsblood’ offers long-lasting colour with a touch of regal sophistication. Plant in full sun in well-drained, fertile soil, and remove spent flowers to encourage more growth.

Supplied as tubers, the best time to plant is in April and May. To plant them, dig a hole at least 20-30cm square and around 20-30cm deep for each one. Cover the base of the hole with 10cms of compost, or manure and give it a good dousing with a full watering can and then plant the dahlia at a depth of 15-20cms. You will need a stout stake, not just a bamboo cane, to support each plant and it is a good idea to knock this in first and then place the plant by its side. It will need to be lifted in winter - once the foliage dies back simply dig it up and store in a cool, frost free location.
