Festuca Glauca 'Freddy'

Festuca glauca 'Freddy' is a compact ornamental grass prized for its steel-blue foliage and neat habit. Its fine, needle-like leaves provide year-round colour and texture, making it ideal for rockeries, gravel gardens, alpine beds, edging, and patio containers. The cool blue tones create a beautiful contrast with flowering perennials and darker-leaved plants, bringing structure and interest even when other plants are not in bloom.

During summer, slender stems rise above the foliage, carrying delicate buff-coloured flower spikes that gently sway in the breeze. Its tidy growth habit makes it particularly useful for modern planting schemes and low-maintenance gardens. Plant in full sun and moist, well-drained soil, where the foliage colour develops most intensely. Avoid overly wet conditions, especially during winter. Comb through or lightly trim away any dead foliage in early spring to keep plants looking fresh and healthy. Once established, Festuca are often drought-tolerant and require little attention beyond occasional tidying, making them an excellent choice for adding lasting texture, colour, and architectural form to the garden.
