Empty the bag of compost into the planter keeping a small amount back to cover the bulbs, Make holes in the compost approx 5cm deep and wide enough to accommodate each bulb. Place 1 bulb (with pointed end facing upward) in each hole and cover with the excess compost, For best results leave the tip of the bulb uncovered. Water well and move to a cool location and do not over water, Spring flowering bulbs must be planted and kept in a cool place for 10-12 weeks. After cooling period the planter can be moved to a warmer location with good sunlight. Hyacinth flowers should begin to appear 2 to 4 weeks after being brought into a warmer environment, Water little and often, do not let compost dry out at any point.
When the flower buds appear, water twice weekly. Turn the pot every few days to keep the stem from growing towards the light. Once the flowers appear, you can prolong the bloom time by keeping in a cooler lcocation and away from direct sources of heat. It is advised to wear gloves when handling Hyacinth bulbs
