Hosta 'Gooseberry Sundae' is a medium-sized clump-forming perennial with rich, dark green foliage and striking purple-red branches. The ovate, somewhat glossy leaves emerges from the vivid stems, providing a stunning contrast and depth to shady garden spaces. In mid-summer, this hosta produces lovely sprays of lavender-purple, bell-shaped blooms on scapes up to 75cm tall, attracting butterflies and adding beauty to the landscape. It thrives in partial to complete shade, making it suitable for forest gardens, shaded borders, or as a container plant.
Prefers a wet, well-drained soil high in organic content. Its tiny stature, reaching around 36-40 cm in height and spreading up to 60 cm, makes it ideal for small gardens or patio displays. Maintain stable soil moisture levels, particularly during dry seasons. Remove wasted foliage as needed and clean up dead leaves at the end of the growing season. Mulching can help keep soil wet and discourage weeds. Hosta 'Gooseberry Sundae', with its colourful stems and rich leaves, lends elegance to shady garden locations while also giving visual interest throughout the growing season.
