Strelitzia reginae - Bird of Paradise Plant
Availability: Out of stock
A large Bird of Paradise plant , ready to grow away and produce the gorgeous, magnificent blooms for which it is famed. Blooms cost around £6 each themselves at a florist, so why not grow your own, give the garden an exotic touch in summer and create a real talking point? They're great for the conservatory too, producing spectacular, bright orange and midnight-blue flowers resembling the face of a colourful crane surrounded by paddle-shaped, emerald-green leaves. This beautiful Bird of Paradise makes an exotic house-plant for a bright, well-lit room. During the summer months plunge container-grown specimens in the middle of a sunny border to create an instant tropical effect, or display on the patio.Â
Â
This exotic plant from Africa is easy to grow and can stand both full sun and shade, keep the soil moist at all times and feed once a month. Great outdoors from May to October, the brightly coloured flowers will last for three months, in their natural surroundings these are pollinated by honey-sucking birds. Perfect for the patio, conservatory or plunging into a tropical themed garden border on well drained retentive soil. Although a tender plant, we know of customers in the South West successfully growing this plant outside all year round with limited protection.
