Watermelon Plant - Sugar Baby

Product ref: VEG28758

Availability: Out of stock

Watermelon ‘Sugar Baby’ is a classic and much-loved variety renowned for producing compact, round fruits packed with exceptionally sweet, juicy flesh. Beneath its dark green rind lies vibrant crimson-red flesh with a refreshing flavour that makes it perfect for summer picnics, fruit salads, smoothies, and eating straight from the garden. The fruits typically weigh around 3–5kg, making them more manageable than many larger watermelon varieties while still delivering an impressive harvest.

This heat-loving plant requires consistently warm conditions and performs best in a greenhouse, polytunnel, or a sheltered, sunny position outdoors during a hot summer. Plant in rich, fertile soil and provide plenty of space for the trailing vines to spread. Regular watering is essential while fruits are developing, although reducing water slightly as they ripen can help concentrate sweetness. Feed every couple of weeks with a high-potash fertiliser and remove excess fruits if larger melons are desired.

Watermelons are one of the most rewarding summer crops, producing refreshing, sun-ripened fruits that bring a true taste of summer to the garden.

Supplied in approx. 9cm pots.
