Musa sikkimensis ‘Ever Red’ - Hardy Darjeeling Banana - EXTRA LARGE circa 140-160cms tall

Ever Red is a fabulous new banana, that also made it to the finals of the Chelsea Flower Show plant of the year aware in 2024!

Sporting huge, ribbed, paddle-shaped leaves, Ever Red gets its name from the dark green foliage streaked with maroon-red stripes. As it matures, fast-growing Ever Red bananas will develop a woody stem, creating a dramatic, architectural centrepiece for a tropical planting scheme.

Since Musa sikkimensis originate from the foothills of the Himalayas, this Banana rivals the well know Musa basjoo for hardiness, plus the thicker, stronger leaves are more windproof and more colourful. ‘Ever Red’ retains its red leaf colour for longer during the summer in comparison to other sikkimensis Banana varieties such as Bengal Tiger.

Plants will thrive outdoors in mild areas if given some protection or they can be grown in containers and moved into a frost-free position over winter. In season, plants can reach as high as 3-4 metres.

Supplied in at around 140-160cms tall, these are very well eastbalished chunky specimens.
