Papaver orientale Brilliant - Blood Red Oriental Poppy
Availability: Out of stock
Papaver oreintale 'Brilliant' is a dazzling oriental poppy that produces lots of large orange-red poppies above hairy foliage, making it a colourful and valuable addition to sunny borders. Few hardy perennials can rival the magnificent blooms of the poppy; this variety is especially striking. The furry buds slowly split to reveal crumpled petals which unfurl into great bowls of glowing vermillion-red flowers with dramatic dark centres. Flowering in late spring and early summer, it brings a dramatic impact to cottage, wildlife and traditional herbaceous garden styles.
Ideal for adding height, texture and vivid seasonal colour, this papaver pairs beautifully with irises and nepeta. Its showy blooms are loved by pollinators and also make impressive cut flowers. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny position, avoiding winter waterlogging. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering and apply a light mulch in spring to support healthy growth and reliable flowering each year.
Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
