Digitalis purpurea Excelsior - Foxgloves in Bud
Availability: Out of stock
Digitalis purpurea 'Excelsior' is a classic cottage garden favourite, admired for its tall spires of bell-shaped flowers that bloom in a soft mix of pink, purple, cream, and white shades. Each flower is distinctively speckled on the inside and arranged in an upward-facing fashion along the stem, giving the plant a more open and elegant appearance than traditional foxgloves. Growing up to 1.5 metres tall, 'Excelsior' creates a striking vertical appearance in borders and is highly attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Â
Plant in partial shade or full sun in moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Allow space between plants for good air circulation, and water during prolonged dry periods. Deadhead spent flower spikes to encourage further blooms, or allow seed heads to form if naturalising is desired. Ideal for mixed borders, wildlife gardens, or shaded spots with dappled light.
