Aquilegia 'Grandmother's Garden' - Biedermeier mixed Columbine - Granny's Bonnet
Availability: Out of stock
This selection is a durable performer that has been cultivated for centuries. It can often be found growing in old cottage gardens. The frilly, nodding flowers have short, hooked spurs that are very different from the hybrids which have long, pointed spurs. 'Grandmother's Garden' is a lovely vintage variety with a mix of pale rose, violet, and wine-red flowers. Aquilegia is especially lovely when allowed to naturalise in shady, woodland borders. They also have excellent potential as cut flowers, lasting up to 2 weeks in a vase. Columbine is easy to grow in loose, average to rich, well-drained soil. Heavy or soggy soils will hasten their demise. They can be grown in full sun or partial shade, though light shade will prolong the flowering time. In the autumn, cut plants back to their basal foliage. In the spring, remove only the dead leaves. Supplied in approx 1 litre containers.
