Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal'

Panicum virgatum 'Heavy Metal' is a striking ornamental grass with upright, steely blue foliage that forms a strong, vertical clump, adding structure and movement to the garden. In late summer, airy clouds of pink-tinged flower panicles appear, followed by golden-yellow autumn colour. Drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, it’s perfect for modern borders and prairie-style planting.

Thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Cut back to the ground in late winter or early spring. Ideal for mixed borders, gravel gardens, or planting with late-season perennials like echinacea and rudbeckia. Great for adding texture and height. A beautiful, sturdy, upright, clump-forming switch grass, particularly admired for its light, airy looks. Metallic blue foliage with burgundy tinted seed heads in autumn. Looks stunning planted with sedums or as a back drop to lower growing grasses.
