Papaver somniferum ‘Flemish Antique Peony’ is one of the most distinctive ornamental poppies available, producing large peony-shaped blooms marbled in soft pink, raspberry and cream. Each flower is uniquely patterned, creating a truly artistic display that flowers from late spring into midsummer.

Following flowering, the main use of these poppies comes into play: their seeds. The seeds of all somniferum type poppies (which go under several common names such as opium poppies, breadseed poppies, or peony poppies) are perfect to use on crusty bloomers or in other breads, cakes and kitchen bakes, providing a subtle nutty flavour. The empty dried heads are further prized for dried flower arrangements as a further use.

This elegant annual is perfect for cottage gardens, heritage planting schemes and cutting gardens where its unusual colouring can be fully appreciated. Easy to grow and low maintenance, it prefers full sun and well-drained soil.
