Papaver somniferum ‘Frosted Salmon Peony’ is a breathtaking heirloom poppy producing huge, fully double peony-style blooms in warm salmon-pink shades with softly ruffled petals. Flowering from late spring into summer, these elegant blooms create a romantic cottage garden display while also making exceptional cut flowers. Their architectural seed heads provide additional interest long after flowering has finished.
Following flowering, the main use of these poppies comes into play: their seeds. The seeds of all somniferum type poppies (which go under several common names such as opium poppies, breadseed poppies, or peony poppies) are perfect to use on crusty bloomers or in other breads, cakes and kitchen bakes, providing a subtle nutty flavour. The empty dried heads are further prized for dried flower arrangements as a further use.
Perfect for cottage gardens, meadow-style plantings and cutting gardens, this striking annual looks spectacular planted in generous drifts amongst cornflowers and cosmos. Easy to grow and low maintenance, it thrives in poor to moderately fertile soils and rarely requires feeding. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil, watering only during prolonged dry spells and allowing seed heads to mature for natural self-seeding.
Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
