Poppy Plant 'Hens and Chickens' - Papaver somniferum

Product ref: PP28657

Availability: Out of stock

Papaver somniferum ‘Hens and Chickens’ is a distinctive annual poppy renowned for its unusual seed heads and colourful blooms. Producing rich, rosy-pink to crimson flowers with delicately crinkled petals and soft pale centres, it flowers in early to mid-summer. After blooming, the standout feature appears, a large central seed pod surrounded by smaller “chicks”, adding additional interest and texture to garden displays.

Following flowering, the main use of these poppies comes into play, and that is their seeds. The seeds of all somniferum type poppies (which go under several common names such as opium poppies, breadseed poppies, or peony poppies) are perfect to use on crusty bloomers or in other breads, cakes and kitchen bakes, providing a subtle nutty flavour. The empty dried heads are further prized for dried flower arrangements as a further use.

Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
