Poppy Plant 'Lauren's Grape' - Papaver somniferum
Availability: Out of stock
A distinctive and elegant annual, Papaver somniferum 'Lauren's Grape' is unique as it produces rich, velvety blooms in deep plum-purple tones with a subtle silvery sheen and contrasting pale centres. Flowering from early to mid-summer, these graceful flowers sway on tall stems and are highly attractive to pollinators, making them perfect for cottage gardens and prairie plantings.
Following flowering, the main use of these poppies comes into play, and that is their seeds. The seeds of all somniferum type poppies (which go under several common names such as opium poppies, breadseed poppies, or peony poppies) are perfect to use on crusty bloomers or in other breads, cakes and kitchen bakes, providing a subtle nutty flavour. The empty dried heads are further prized for dried flower arrangements as a further use.
