Did you know all species of spruce trees (genus Picea), including Picea glauca 'Conica' (dwarf Alberta spruce), are considered non-toxic and have edible parts! 
The most commonly consumed parts are the bright green, tender new shoots (called "spruce tips") that emerge in the spring. These tips have a distinct, strong, citrusy or piney flavor and are rich in vitamin C.
