Transform bare patches of garden into a gorgeous tapestry of colour with Persicaria affinis 'Superba', a delightful, low-growing perennial that really earns its place in the garden!
From early summer into autumn, this hardworking beauty produces masses of slender, upright flower spikes that emerge soft pink before gradually deepening to richer shades of rose and red. As the flowers mature at different stages, they create a wonderful two-tone display, with fresh pink blooms mingling amongst deeper rosy tones.
Beneath the flowers, a dense carpet of neat, lance-shaped green leaves spreads to form attractive ground cover, helping to soften hard edges and fill gaps between larger plants. The foliage can also develop lovely bronze and reddish tints as autumn approaches.
Perfect for edging pathways, spilling over low walls, carpeting banks or weaving through the front of mixed borders, 'Superba' is a charming choice for gardeners looking for lasting colour with very little fuss.

Supplied in approx 2 litre containers.

Persicaria affinis is native to the mountainous regions of the Himalayas, where it grows naturally in alpine meadows and rocky places. Despite these rugged origins, it makes a wonderfully adaptable garden plant. The cultivar 'Superba' has also received the Royal Horticultural Society's prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM), recognising its outstanding performance in gardens.

Grow Persicaria affinis 'Superba' in full sun or partial shade, in moderately fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Water regularly during its first growing season to help establish a strong root system, and provide additional moisture during prolonged dry spells. Once established, it is relatively tolerant of occasional dry conditions, although flowering is best when the soil does not become excessively dry. Apply a layer of organic mulch in spring to conserve moisture and improve soil structure. Remove tired flower spikes if desired, and tidy away damaged or dead foliage in late winter or early spring. This hardy, spreading perennial requires little routine maintenance but can be divided in spring if clumps become overcrowded or spread beyond their allotted space.
