Grow Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Golf Ball' in a sunny or partially shaded position, ideally sheltered from cold, drying winds. It prefers fertile, well-drained soil and will tolerate a range of soil types provided drainage is good. Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a strong root system, then water established plants during prolonged dry spells. Container-grown specimens require more frequent watering, especially during warm weather, and benefit from a balanced slow-release fertiliser in spring. Naturally compact, 'Golf Ball' needs very little pruning, although a light trim in late spring or early summer can help maintain its rounded shape or create a more formal appearance. Avoid hard pruning during cold weather.
