Runner Beans (Phaseolus coccineus) are compact and ornamental vegetable plants. An especially colourful member of our collection, Runner Bean ‘Hestia’ is popular due to its red-and-white flowers, compact habit, and reliable harvests of tender beans. Perfect for patios, containers, and smaller gardens, this dwarf runner bean produces smooth, slightly curved green pods with a deliciously fresh, traditional flavour. The bright bicolour blooms are highly attractive to pollinators and give the plant excellent ornamental value, making ‘Hestia’ a popular RHS Award of Garden Merit variety for edible and decorative displays alike.

Thriving in fertile, moisture-retentive yet well-drained soil, ‘Hestia’ grows best in a sunny, sheltered position where it can receive plenty of warmth. Unlike taller runner beans, this compact variety rarely needs extensive staking, though light support can help keep plants tidy when heavily laden with pods. Water regularly during dry spells to maintain steady growth and improve cropping throughout summer and into early autumn. Harvest pods while young and tender to encourage continuous production, and remove spent flowers and older beans promptly to keep plants flowering and fruiting freely. Combining compact growth, ornamental charm, and excellent flavour, Runner Bean ‘Hestia’ is an ideal choice for productive container gardening and smaller outdoor spaces.

Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
