Sarcococca ruscifolia - 'Dragon Gate'-Fragrant Sweet Box

Commonly known as Fragrant Sweet Box, Sarcococca ruscifolia is prized for the strong honey-like scent its blooms provide in winter. Its masses of white flowers open from late December to February, filling your garden with their beautiful scent and they are then followed by spherical deep-red berries in summer. The strong stems are covered in large glossy, dark-green oval leaves which stay all year round. This is a low growing shrub that will only reach a maximum height and spread of 0.5-1 metre, which makes it the perfect fit for a mixed border scheme or as a small patio shrub. Equally its sizeable evergreen leaves makes it ideal for mass planting to create a small informal hedge. 

Sarcococca ruscifolia isn’t fully hardy so should be sheltered from cold winds. It prefers to be planted in moist but well-drained soil and placed in full or partial shade. However, it can establish in any soil type of pH.
