Sarcococca ruscifolia 'Dragon Gate' - Fragrant Sweet Box

Commonly known as Fragrant Sweet Box, Sarcococca ruscifolia Dragon Gate is loved for the strong honey-like scent its blooms provide in winter. Its masses of white flowers open from mid-December to February, filling your garden with their beautiful perfume, once the scent is gone and the flowers fade, the blooms are then followed by spherical deep-red berries in summer. The strong stems are covered in large glossy, dark-green oval leaves which stay all year round.

This is a low growing shrub that will only reach a maximum height and spread of 0.5-1 metre, which makes it the perfect fit for a mixed border scheme or as a small patio shrub. Equally its sizeable evergreen leaves makes it ideal for mass planting to create a small informal hedge. Sarcococca ruscifolia isn’t fully hardy so should be sheltered from cold winds. It prefers to be planted in moist but well-drained soil and placed in full or partial shade. However, it can establish in any soil type of pH.
