Skimmia japonica Nymans

A spreading, evergreen shrub with white flowers in April and May and slightly aromatic, lance-shaped, dark green leaves. Skimmia Nymans is an award-winning evergreen hardy shrub that will provide much-needed colour in the winter garden. It is the ideal shrub for a shady or mixed garden border, with fragrant white flowers in spring that are then followed by persistent red berries. Do plant a male variety of skimmia such as Rubella, Kew Green of Magic Marlot nearby too, to ensure pollination and berries form on Nymans.

The whole shrub will not reach much more than half a metre making a perfect ground covering shrub that will fit perfectly into a mixed planting border. One thing to look out for is it may not like a very heavy soil but, this can be overcome by planting in a container where it makes a handsome subject.

. Skimmia is a tough plant that will take all aspects including a windy site. Once established it requires very little maintenance, a feed with Seaweed extract in early spring will keep it healthy.
