A highly regarded heirloom winter squash, 'Delicata', has distinctive cream-coloured fruits beautifully striped with dark green bands, with its exceptionally sweet, nutty flavour. Producing cylindrical fruits with tender edible skin, this productive variety develops rich orange flesh that becomes sweeter after harvest. Perfect for roasting, stuffing or baking, ‘Delicata’ is celebrated for its smooth texture and chestnut-like taste, making it a favourite among home cooks and vegetable gardeners alike. The vigorous plants provide generous harvests from late summer into autumn.

Thriving in a sunny position with fertile, moisture-retentive soil, Squash ‘Delicata’ benefits from regular watering and feeding throughout the growing season. Allow fruits to mature fully on the plant before harvesting for the best flavour and storage potential. Ideal for vegetable gardens, allotments and larger raised beds, this attractive variety combines ornamental fruits with outstanding culinary quality and dependable garden performance.

Supplied in approx. 9cm pots.

Care

The primary intended use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption.

There are thousands of different plant species that can be consumed, and our extensive range is no exception. We have conveniently listed a large number of edible plants here. Additionally, we have compiled several articles and handy recipes for some of the plants you are less likely to find in supermarkets.

We always recommend conducting your own research before consuming any plant to understand the various ways different varieties can be prepared and consumed. Be mindful of potential allergies when trying anything new and ensure it is suitable for all who may be consuming it.

Some plants or varieties can also be cultivated as animal feed for livestock, such as poultry, game, and livestock reared for consumption. Again, we advise doing your own research to select the most appropriate plants for your livestock.

Please note that this plant is sold with VAT charged at 0%. If you are a VAT-registered business, ensure this is properly included in your VAT return.

Plant in rich, well-drained soil that receives full sun. Plants require enough space to grow to their full potential. Water regularly to maintain an even moisture level in the soil, and mulch to keep moisture in and prevent weed growth. Harvest the squash in late autumn, once the skin has hardened and it has reached its full colour.Â
