Squash 'Guatemalan Blue Banana' is a remarkable heirloom winter squash prized for its unusual elongated shape, beautiful blue-grey skin and exceptionally sweet yellow-orange flesh. This variety boasts a unique, rich flavour that is perfect for roasting, baking, soups, curries and purees. Weighing 4-8kg, its excellent keeping qualities and distinctive appearance make it a favourite with both gardeners and cooks.

'Guatemalan Blue Banana' thrives in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. It matures in around 100-120 days and produces generous harvests on its trailing vines. Water regularly during dry spells and feed with a high-potash fertiliser once fruits begin to develop to encourage the best yields. Allow plenty of space for the vines to spread, and harvest fruits before the first frosts for optimum flavour and storage life.

Combining visual appeal and excellent culinary quality, this heirloom squash is a superb addition to any vegetable garden or allotment.

Supplied in approx. 9cm pots.

Care

The primary intended use of this plant is to grow food for human consumption.

There are thousands of different plant species that can be consumed, and our extensive range is no exception. We have conveniently listed a large number of edible plants here. Additionally, we have compiled several articles and handy recipes for some of the plants you are less likely to find in supermarkets.

We always recommend conducting your own research before consuming any plant to understand the various ways different varieties can be prepared and consumed. Be mindful of potential allergies when trying anything new and ensure it is suitable for all who may be consuming it.

Some plants or varieties can also be cultivated as animal feed for livestock, such as poultry, game, and livestock reared for consumption. Again, we advise doing your own research to select the most appropriate plants for your livestock.

Please note that this plant is sold with VAT charged at 0%. If you are a VAT-registered business, ensure this is properly included in your VAT return.

Plant in rich, well-drained soil that receives full sun. Plants require enough space to grow to their full potential. Water regularly to maintain an even moisture level in the soil, and mulch to keep moisture in and prevent weed growth. Harvest the squash in late autumn, once the skin has hardened and it has reached its full colour.Â
