Syringa meyeri, 'Little Rosie' is a beautiful miniature lilac that enhances any garden with vibrant colour and a beautiful perfume. This small-sized cultivar has clusters of rich pink buds that open to softer pink blooms, and it smells delicious in late spring. Growing to a modest height of up to 1.5 metres, 'Little Rosie' is ideal for borders or as a freestanding feature in smaller gardens. It is also a beautiful container plant for patios. A sport of the well known 'Red Pixie' Lilac, Little Rosie may be the new girl on the block, but comes with a strong heritage of proven reliability and garden performance.
Little Rosie is named after the daughter of a Dutch man (Peter van Rijssen) who is a big name in the plant marketing world having brought many new and exciting plants to gardeners around the world, when his daughter was born, he persuaded the breeder of the plant to name it after his baby daughter - so Syringa Little Rosie came to be. Little Rosie is now a little bigger and running around, so for fun had a photoshoot with the name sake plant, of course pround dad Peter never expected that to be so hard!
How did a succesfull photoshoot conclude - the Photography studio and Peter had a smart idea - hide cookies in the plant so Little Rosie was looking for them - it worked, photos were secured and of course, Little Rose ate all the cookies!
As Peter says, 'Syringa Little Rosie is a dwarf version of Red Pixie with a more intense color, and more flowers in spring. It has lovely perfumed flowers and is suitable for every garden, super easy & fun too, like my Little Rosie.'
This lilac thrives in either full sun or moderate shade, likes well-drained soil, and benefits from periodic pruning to keep its bushy, compact form. Furthermore, the plant exhibits remarkable resilience, fending off typical diseases and pests that harm other lilac plants.
Supplied in approx 3 litre containers.
