Gage Tree - Old Greengage Bush (VVA-1)

Product ref: T28366

Availability: Out of stock

Rich, luscious, and steeped in heritage, the Gage Tree ‘Old Greengage' is famed for producing some of the finest dessert fruits you can grow. Its small, round green gages ripen in late summer to early autumn, delivering an intensely sweet, honeyed flavour with a delicate, aromatic juiciness that has delighted gardeners and cooks for centuries. Perfect eaten fresh, they are also superb for jams, puddings, and preserves.

In spring, the tree is clothed in clusters of white blossom, buzzing with pollinators and bringing ornamental charm before the fruits form. With its manageable bushy size, it’s perfect for traditional orchards, cottage gardens, or sunny kitchen plots. Thriving in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, ‘Old Greengage’ is best maintained with light summer pruning and regular watering in dry spells. Though not self-fertile, it rewards those who grow it alongside another plum or gage with unbeatable flavour, making it a must-have for any serious fruit lover.

Supplied in approx. 12 litre containers grafted on a VVA-1 Rootstock, which is semi-dwarfing and used for cherries, peaches, gages and apricots, producing a compact tree with high disease resistance. Its compact size makes it easier to manage and ensures its fruit stays at a pickable height.
