Abelia grandiflora 'Sparking Silver'

Sparkling Silver’ is a stunning shrub much loved for both its colourful foliage and abundance of summer flowers. This Abelia gets its name as a result of its beautiful variegated foliage which appears tinged with pink in the spring and gradually developes amazing tones of green and silver by the summer, with the silver hues almost sparkling in the sun. From July to October this shrub displays clusters of fragrant white flowers which contrast amazingly against the white, green and pink tinged sepals, giving you delicate summer colour and fragrance. In autumn the foliage gradually turns light pink as a result of the cold weather and as a semi-evergreen it may retain this foliage right through winter. The dark red stems also help to maintain winter interest. A compact and slow growing shrub, we recommend planting this Abelia in the front of a mixed border but it can work equally well when planted in a container within a patio planting scheme. 

Whilst ‘Sparkling Silver’ prefers full sun it can also establish in partial shade. Make sure to plant this shrub in moist but well draining soil with access to plenty of nutrients. This specimen is hardy so is suited to exposed or sheltered gardens.
