This stunning Japanese maple is well-loved for its filigree leaves, which are as fine as lace. Green in summer, these turn rich shades of yellow in autumn. The tree typically forms a sweeping, mushroom-shaped form and looks particularly beautiful at the edge of a pond. Its cascading branches create a graceful, dome-like silhouette that brings elegance and structure to any garden. The finely dissected foliage provides a soft, feathery texture that moves gently in the breeze, creating a calming effect. In spring, the fresh green leaves unfurl delicately, offering a bright, uplifting display that contrasts beautifully with darker foliage or stonework.
This maple thrives in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and partial shade, perfect for Japanese-style gardens, rockeries, or as a specimen tree in a sheltered garden or patio. It’s best positioned away from harsh afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch. Pair with hostas, ferns, or moss for a tranquil and harmonious setting.
