Patio Tree - Anisodontea capensis - Elegant Princess Tree Cape Mallow Tree

The semi-evergreen Anisodontea is a bright, cheery shrub that exhibits blooms in shades of pink, it is hardy to -6c and perfect for a well drained, preferably sheltered spot in the garden at it dislikes winter wet or better still, a roomy patio planter surrounded by seasonal flowers to show off in all its glory. It is then easily moved to a more sheltered position or conservatory for example over winter, before bringing it out again to provide it's bright display of blooms all summer long.

Native to South Africa, the Pink Cape mallow has an upright growth form that can reach a height of up to 2 m and a spread of approximately 2m if left to its own devices, the dense foliage lends itself to clipping and the shrub can be used as a topiary subject however, as we have done here, to make a smart flowering patio tree. An aromatic fragrance is released when the leaves are bruised. The small, Hibiscus-like flowers appear in masses and these are attractive to beneficial insects and butterflies.
