Clematis Star of India

Clematis 'Star of India' is a spectacular large-flowered climber, producing velvety violet-blue blooms adorned with bold crimson-purple central bars and creamy-white stamens. Flowering abundantly from early summer and often again in late summer, its eye-catching blooms create a dramatic display over arches, trellises, pergolas and fences. Reaching around 2–3 metres in height, this free-flowering variety is perfect for adding long-lasting colour and vertical interest to cottage gardens, wildlife gardens and patio containers.

Plant Clematis 'Star of India' in fertile, moist but well-drained soil with its roots kept cool and shaded, while allowing the stems to climb into full sun with the roots ideally being shaded. Water regularly during dry spells and prune according to Group 2 guidelines to encourage prolific flowering. Pair with climbing Roses for a beautiful cottage garden display, while underplanting with Hostas or Heucheras helps shade the roots and maintain healthy growth.
