Exotically coloured flamboyant swathes of flowers appear upon arching wiry stems above grassy foliage in summer. Red buds open to yellow-throated, carmine-red flowers. Their strap-shaped leaves are also attractive and provide a vertical accent. Carmine Brilliant Crocosmia, also known as montbretia, is a specially selected kind chosen for its large flowers.
