Abies koreana, the Blue Cone Korean Fir, is a very rewarding slow-growing conifer, with glossy green needles, silver-coloured on the underside. Its sculptural, blue-violet cones contrast beautifully with the dense needles. With its naturally balanced shape and year-round interest, it brings structure, colour and quiet drama to borders and woodland-style gardens.

This fir thrives in a cool, sheltered position with plenty of light but protection from harsh winds, preferring moist yet well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It pairs particularly well with plants that enhance its cool tones and woodland character, such as Rhododendron ‘Cunningham’s White’ or Azalea mollis for seasonal colour, and Skimmia japonica for glossy foliage and winter interest.
