English Yew is an excellent choice for informal hedging, screens, or even used in topiary. It has dark-green, needle-like foliage with a broadly conical, upright growing habit. It can grow extremely large, and this Yew is one of the longest-lived trees in Europe. If planted correctly, Yew can be sure to last for many, many years to come. A compact, evergreen conifer whose foliage provides an excellent backdrop to a herbaceous perennial or shrub border. 

Position: Full sun or partial shade
Soil: Loam, Sand, Chalk, Clay & tolerant of acidic soil

Hardiness: Fully Hardy

Flowering colour and season: Yellow flowers in spring; red berry-like arils in autumn

Requires sheltering: No

Rate of growth: Slow

Eventual height & spread: Up to 12m height, Up to 8m spread (over 20–50 years)

Planting directions: Plant in well-drained soil around 45cm apart

Pruning time: Late summer or early autumn

Pairs well with: Box (Buxus sempervirens), Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica)
