Geranium × oxonianum ‘Miss Heidi’ has flowers you’ll want to stop and look at closely. Each pretty pink bloom is covered with fine, darker pink veins radiating across the petals, creating an almost hand-drawn effect around a softly contrasting centre. Set against deeply lobed green foliage, lightly patterned with darker red tones, they make a wonderfully characterful display.
This hardy cranesbill forms a bushy, spreading clump, bringing plenty of foliage to the front or middle of a border and helping to knit planting schemes together. Flowers begin in late spring and continue to appear intermittently through summer, giving ‘Miss Heidi’ a pleasingly long season of interest. It is equally at home in cottage-style planting, wildlife gardens or used as attractive flowering ground cover. Better still, the flowers provide nectar and pollen for visiting insects, making this a pretty plant with a useful side too.

Grow ‘Miss Heidi’ in full sun or partial shade, preferably in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Partial shade is particularly suitable, although it will grow happily in sunnier positions where the soil remains reliably moist. Avoid waterlogged ground. Water regularly while the plant establishes and during prolonged dry periods, then remove spent flowering stems and tired older foliage to encourage fresh leaves and further flowers. It is exceptionally hardy, with an RHS H7 rating, and may remain semi-evergreen in milder locations while dying back more fully during colder winters
The “×” in Geranium × oxonianum tells you there is a little botanical matchmaking in its history. Oxford cranesbill is a hybrid between Geranium endressii and Geranium versicolor, and the resulting group is notably variable, producing numerous garden forms with different shades and patterns of pink flowers. ‘Miss Heidi’ makes the most of that heritage with its particularly striking network of darker veins.
