Hydrangea serrata 'Beni-Gaku'
Availability: In stock
Hydrangea serrata 'Beni-gaku' is a hard to find treasure. It features attractive tricolour, lacecap flowers on a compact deciduous plant. Flowers emerge white, then darken to pink with deep red edges. The small fertile florets are a dark purple, opening to light blue. This flower colour variation is a big wow factor giving pale pink, bright pink, sky blue, lavender, etc all on the same plant! It has a wonderful smoky colour in foliage as well as the bloom with the leaves turning dark purple in Autumn.
Â
We recemmend complementing 'Beni-gaku' with blue hostas, such as Halcyon, and perennials like Verbena bonariensis and Anthriscus Ravenswing or other perennials with dark leaves or hot pink flowers. Hydrangea works well in a woodland setting or a mixed shrub border and prefers humus-rich garden soil. It grows best in part shade but will do well in full sun. A truly beautiful plant.
