Rhododendron Tortoiseshell Orange
Availability: Out of stock
A handsome evergreen shrub reaching up to two and a half metres height and width. It has an upright compact habit with narrow dark green leaves, coming into its own from mid spring to early summer; clusters of pale pink flowers flushed with orange are born all over the plant which makes a striking sight.
This is an acid loving plant that likes partial shade. It will baulk at dry or chalky conditions and may suffer in cold northernly winds.
It is a superb plant for a woodland border or setting, particularly if planted in small groups and dotted around a taller deciduous tree. If your soil conditions are not suitable you can grow in a container.
For maintenance it’s important to remember this plant won’t like being dry so water well during hot weather; this is particularly important when establishing. In early spring add a mulch of well-rotted manure or leaf mould, a foliar feed of seaweed extract in late spring is also very beneficial. It requires no pruning but cut out any dead or damaged material.
Supplied in approx 5 litre containers.
