Runner Beans (Phaseolus coccineus) are vigorous and heavy-cropping vegetable plants. An especially reliable member of our collection, Runner Bean 'Crusader' is prized for its exceptionally long, smooth pods, tender texture and excellent flavour. Producing masses of straight, dark green beans, this variety is renowned for remaining stringless and succulent even at its large size. The beans have a rich, traditional flavour and are perfect when steamed or freshly picked. 'Crusader' has become a favourite among growers for its dependable cropping and impressive yields.

Thriving in fertile, moisture-retentive yet well-drained soil, 'Crusader' performs best in a sunny, sheltered position with sturdy canes or supports for climbing. Regular watering during warm weather is essential for steady pod production, particularly once flowering begins in summer. Pinching out the growing tips when plants reach the top of their supports encourages bushier growth and easier harvesting. Frequent picking keeps the plants cropping continuously from mid-summer into early autumn, while removing older pods promptly maintains quality and vigour.

Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
