Runner Beans (Phaseolus coccineus) are vigorous and exceptionally productive vegetable plants. One of the most productive in our collection, Runner Bean ‘Polestar’ is valued for its remarkably long pods, tender texture, and heavy cropping habit. Producing masses of bright green beans, this variety is celebrated for its fleshy, stringless pods and traditional flavour. The beans remain tender even when harvested at larger sizes, making them excellent for steaming, freezing, or adding to hearty summer dishes. With its scarlet flowers and strong climbing habit, ‘Polestar’ also brings ornamental charm and pollinator appeal to the vegetable garden.
Thriving in fertile, moisture-retentive yet well-drained soil, ‘Polestar’ grows best in a sunny, sheltered position with sturdy canes or trellis support for climbing. Keep plants well watered during dry spells, particularly once flowering and pod production begin, to encourage continuous cropping through summer and early autumn. Pinching out the growing tips once stems reach the top of their supports helps direct energy into flowering and bean production. Frequent harvesting keeps the plants productive for longer, while removing mature pods promptly encourages fresh growth and repeat flowering. Combining excellent flavour, impressive yields, and reliable garden performance, Runner Bean ‘Polestar’ is a superb choice for productive and attractive kitchen gardens.
Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
