Ginkgo biloba - Maiden Hair Tree - Stunning Autumn Colour

Ginkgo biloba, or 'Maiden Hair Tree,' is a deciduous conifer with striking bright green leaves that turn a beautiful shade of gold in late Autumn. The ancient Chinese famed it as an herbal supplement, and this plant has been around since the dinosaurs. So tough and hardy that six specimens in Japan survived the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and are still growing today. These trees can live a long time, so you, your children, and future generations can enjoy this incredibly beautiful tree for centuries.

The unusual foliage in spring is a light green but will suddenly turn a pure, dazzling yellow in the Autumn. It remains for some time on the tree before suddenly dropping virtually all at once—a convenient time for Ginkgo leaf harvesting.

Through pruning, these trees can be kept as an attractive shrub or backdrop to a herbaceous border. They could even be used to create a very unusual bonsai. With its slow growing dense habit, this Ginkgo will make a wonderful striking specimen for any garden.
