Pleioblastus distichus
Availability: Out of stock
Pleioblastus distichus is a charming dwarf bamboo known for its compact habit and unique, fan-like arrangement of narrow green leaves. This low-growing, evergreen bamboo forms dense mats of lush foliage, making it ideal for ground cover, edging, or container planting. Its neat, architectural look adds structure and texture to Japanese-style gardens, shaded borders, or even patio pots. This is one of the smallest bamboos. The most noticeable characteristic of this bamboo is its leaf texture. The leaves are very tough and erect, and fan out in groups of 5 or so leaves, making them look very much like little palm or fern leaves.
This running bamboo thrives in well-drained soil and partial shade, though it tolerates full sun with sufficient moisture. Hardy and low-maintenance, it spreads steadily and is best controlled with a root barrier or grown in pots. Light pruning in spring helps maintain its tidy appearance. Pair with moss, ferns, or dwarf conifers for a refined and tranquil garden setting.
Supplied in approx 1.5 -2.5 litre pots.
